HOPE operates the Coordinated Access Point for Northwest Louisiana where any person experiencing a housing crisis can receive referrals (for those who are not homeless) or an assessment for additional services/housing (for those who are experiencing homelessness.) The Coordinated Access Point assessment gives each person an assessment which helps determine the level of support they will need to be successful in housing. This program serves as the front-door to the homeless housing system.

HOPE operates the Street Outreach Services for NWLA, which seeks to locate anyone in the region who is living somewhere that is not meant for human habitation including abandoned buildings, under bridges, in outdoor camps, in vehicles, etc. The team consists of mental health case managers, certified peer support specialists, and a Veteran specialist from VOA NL. This adventurous team uses a 4-door truck to scour the area for those who need their services which include crisis counseling, relationship building, preliminary diagnosis, and connections with needed services. The end result of all Street Outreach Activities is to assist those experiencing homelessness to obtain and maintain permanent housing.

Since the early '90s, when HOPE was led only by volunteers, we have been the convener and guide for the system to end and prevent homelessness in our region. HOPE oversees the over $4 million annually in HUD CoC Homeless Assistance funding that funds sixteen projects at nine different agencies. We hold monthly Homeless Coalition meetings where agencies collaborate, network, and weave together the safety net of services for those experiencing homelessness, extreme poverty, and/or a variety of severe disabilities. HOPE leads the collective impact to end homelessness, and since 2014, the member agencies of HOPE have reduced unsheltered homelessness by 63%. We proved that if we work together in innovative and truly collaborative ways, we really can end homelessness. As part of our mission, HOPE operates the Homeless One-Stop for our region where any individual or agency who is experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis can have immediate needs met and can be assessed for a variety of other services that are provided onsite.

As part of our role as the front-door to the homeless system, HOPE operates a Day Shelter within the HOPE Connections One-Stop. Any person or family experiencing homelessness can take showers, do laundry, use the phone or computer, take a variety of empowering classes, and be referred for more in-depth services as relationships are formed. The Day Shelter is open 7 days a week from 8am-4pm Monday-Thursday, and 8am-2pm Friday-Sunday. Over 20 churches from across the region sponsor the Center, which is 100% privately funded. They collect items like laundry detergent, gently used towels, personal care items, and paperback books for our grateful clients.
